Over the last two or three years there has been an explosion of conferences and editorial content examining the perceived ‘crisis’ in art education and speculating on the causes of student dissatisfaction. The tutors gave their views on the crisis and discuss questions posed in the book such as:
How does current pedagogical practice compare with their own art school education? Why is art education the way it is today and what are it’s philosophies? How does art education influence the work we see in contemporary art galleries? How does it sit with public perception of art and how does one come to produce contemporary art? How do they evaluate art? How will the impending tuition fee increase affect those who are thinking about studying art? What influence does an institutions reputation and branding have on students?
This event was part of Cubitt’s Festival of Blackboards, a two-week series of events exploring the future of visual arts education, presented by Cubitt Education. LCACE kindly supported this event.
