A convenor or crit is the main focus of Q-Art London and where most of our activity takes place. The convenor or crit format is borrowed from art schools and is a place where artists can present work for critical discussion and peer-review.On this site you will mainly see the word convenor used.
Our convenors are about three hours long and take place once a month across rooms within various London art colleges. You can find the dates for these on our events calendar.
At each convenor seven artists are given 20-25 minutes each in which to present and receive feedback on their work from the attending audience. Q-Art London is open to students and graduates from across all levels (Foundation, BA, MA, PHD etc) and all courses and so presenters and audiences alike are made up of a wide-range of people. This allows room for peer-engaged learning and discussion, networking and a sharing of perspectives. The organisers of Q-Art London hold no privilege in selection and so application to present is on a strictly first-come, first-served basis. All are welcome to attend.
At the end of the year those who present work in a convenor will take part in an end of year exhibition. In July 2009 this took place at the APT Gallery, Deptford and featured the work of all 41 artists who presented. See ‘Q-Art Presents…’ on the homepage.
