I have always felt that beauty in its own right has never been enough reason for me to paint or create work of any kind. On the contrary I am a bit ‘off key’ to use a musical analogy. It is really in this spectrum of soft tones with a few false notes I enjoy myself the most. My paintings are most often based on photographs or objects I have taken and found. The transformation then takes place, and my work turns cockily fence-sitting between the sublime and the ridiculous. Cheeky, horrible, uncanny, nostalgic and often anthropomorphic, I have always liked the idea that the painting is gazing back at the viewer, maybe not to annoy but at least to tease.
